So now here’s something I did, Took this photo of the R68A Subway Cars On The B Line At Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and Made it looked really classic and old. This photo reminds me of how it kinda looks like the old Coney Island Station.. Made me think of the old times. Enjoy

Reliving The 2001-2004 (D) Train Again (Well)

Yep so here’s a memory that happened when I was 6-9 years old which I relived today, The last stop for D Trains from Norwood-205th Street was 34th Street Herald Square. As an alternative to Coney Island Brooklyn take the F, N and Q Lines. I remember when they did this as part of the Manhattan Bridge rehab from July 2001 To February 2004 as a full shutdown, the W Train was the West End via Broadway (Which West End was originally the B Train via 6th Avenue) and the D Train Line before the shutdown in 2001 was the Brighton Line. I remember the first day when the Manhattan Bridge changes occurred on the (B) And (D) Lines with both lines having its southern terminal as 34th Street in 2001, the (B) Train no longer ran on weekends (Still present to this day), I rode the (D) Train ending at 34th Street on its first day with my dad when I was 6 years old, rode the new Broadway (Q) Train and the brand new (W) Train. Was fun times. I remember the (D) Train had that Southern terminal rollsign with it saying 34th Street-Herald Square. And yes the (D) Did used Westinghouse R68 Subway Cars as well as today in the present.

I also remember the ORIGINAL Grand Street Shuttle Train which ran between Broadway Lafayette Street and Grand Street only before extending it to West 4th Street in December 2001. The Grand Street Shuttle used R46 Subway Cars (4 Car Sets). But today it ended up using the R68 Subway Cars From The D Train which wasn’t surprising. I was able to photograph these reliving the times I’ve had when I was a little boy. It was fun reliving these stuff again

Well Thanks for reading viewers

The (B) Train Review

Posted by Daniel Smith on August 7, 2014
Posted in: Photography. Tagged: B Train, Bedford Park Blvd, BMT, BMT Brighton Line, Brighton Beach, Coney Island Yard, IND Sixth Avenue Line, Manhattan, New York City Subway, NYC Subway, Photography, R40 Slant, R68A, R68A B Train. Leave a comment

My review on this is going to be good. So sit back and enjoy this article.

The (B) Train is the IND Sixth Avenue Express Line that has been through changes. I’m going to go back into my early early days (Baby days) of how the B Train Ran. The B Train ran between Washington Heights 168th Street (Weekdays) or 21st Street-Queensbridge (Weekends) and Coney Island Stillwell Avenue and this was back when I was born and lasted for until I was 3 years old. In 1998, the (B) Train switch Northern Terminals with the (C) Train and weekday (B) Train service ends up running from Harlem-145th Street (Bedford Park Blvd during the Rush Hours) to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.

R68A (B) Train - Bedford Park Blvd

R68A (B) Train – Bedford Park Blvd

Up until July 2001, the Brooklyn portion of the (B) Train used to run via the BMT West End Line and BMT Fourth Avenue Express. Trains used to skip Dekalb Avenue (Except the last few northbound trains ran local in Brooklyn). In 2001 due to the North Side of the Manhattan Bridge going through final rehab, the (B) Train became a weekday only route with the southern terminal being 34th Street-Herald Square. The (B) Train basically was consider a Short local version of the (D) Train during that time and it shared subway cars with the (D) Train (R68 Subway Cars #2500 – #2727). Then in 2004, after the Manhattan Bridge finished rehab, they did a huge change no one expected. The (B) Train became the new weekday Brighton Line Express to Brighton Beach instead of returning to the West End Line due to new changes and because there was no where to turn the (B) Train during the weekends (Northern Terminal).

Now I’m going to share my experience and opinion on this, the (B) Train is a very helpful route for the (A) (C) (D) (Q) Lines. I remember riding the (B) Train more often with my dad when it was cut to 34th Street from 2001-2004. It used R68 Subway Cars only around that time period. The first day and I mean the first day when the (B) Train line goes through a HUGE new change (Both route wise and equipment wise), my dad after school let us let the (C) Train passed by so we can ride the (B). Out of my surprise, The (B) Train reverted back to its early 1990s days using R40 Slants subway cars. Honestly I was a little disappointed that the (B) Train didn’t use any R68s BUT I actually loved the R40s on that route and it made the route look good.

Another memory I remember was my 11th birthday in 2006, I rode the R68A Subway Cars on the (B) Train for the first time since 2001. It felt good riding it via Central Park West Local again. That was a good way to end the trip.
R68A B Train - 116th Street

I honestly missed the (B) using slants. I prefer those than R68/R68As on the (B) Line. Although another surprise happened in 2009 when a set of the R32 Subway Cars ran on the (B) for 9 months. That was also good. I remember I rode it to my afterschool program a few times. The R32 on the (B) made the (B) fun again.

The (B) line in general is a good and helpful route. It was my favorite route from 2007-2009. Other times its my 2nd favorite route. I’m going to give the (B) Train a 9.5 out of 10. I just wished old subway cars will run on that route ONE last time before they go away and retire.
